What is Prevent?
Prevent is the Government's strategy to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism, in all its forms. Prevent works at the pre criminal stage by using early intervention to encourage individuals and communities to challenge extremist and terrorist ideology and behavior.
As part of Mersey Drive’s ongoing safeguarding and child protection duties, we are fully behind the government’s PREVENT strategy.
From July 1st 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.” This duty is known as the PREVENT Duty for Schools.
At Mersey Drive Primary School, we build pupils’ resilience to radicalization by promoting fundamental British values and enabling our pupils to challenge extremist views.
Making a referral
If you have concerns about an individual, you can make a referral into Prevent.
To do this simply fill out the correct referral form Link and send it to the following email addresses:
childwellbeing@bury.gov.uk (for children referrals)
adultcareservices@bury.gov.uk (for adults referrals)
In addition to this, whether the referral is for an adult or a child, all referrals must also go to channel.project@gmp.police.uk and mchannel@manchester.gov.uk (information on referral form)
